Borough of Ship Bottom Beach Wheels for the Disabled

Beach Wheels & Ramps

Handicapped accessible dune walkovers are on 15th and 20th Streets. These streets have a blue “MOBY MAT” for easier access to the beach. Additional ramps are available on 4th, 8th, 9th, 14th, 19th. 21st, and 25th Streets.

Beach Patrol
Beach Patrol personnel start patrolling the beaches on weekends only beginning Memorial Day Weekend up to the first day of the season (Saturday before Father’s Day) to September 30th. While on patrol using All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), lifeguards are ever vigilant for beach goers’ care educating the public on beach awareness and ocean safety. During the regular season lifeguards are on duty from 10 AM to 6 PM daily. In the post-season (day after Labor Day to September 30th) only 7th, 15th, and 20th street beaches have lifeguards on duty. ​

Beach Wheels for the Disabled
Beach Wheels for Handicapped access to the beach are available at Beach Operations Headquarters. Beach Wheels are available with advance reservation by calling the Ship Bottom Beach Patrol at (609) 494-9481 In-Season and (609) 494-2171 ext. 100 Off-Season.

Purple Martin Colony

Sunset Point is a community park on Barnegat Bay in Ship Bottom, NJ, which is located on Long Beach Island. A highlight of the park is a very successful Purple Martin colony that has been producing an average of 70 or more birds in recent years. This is the story of that colony.
